When to reach real people: getting help in a crisis

Apps, exercises and journals can help a lot. But some moments need real people. This page is here so you know when — and how — to reach them.
Reach out now if…
Please contact emergency services or a crisis line straight away if:
- You're thinking about ending your life or harming yourself
- You've hurt yourself or taken something
- You feel you can't keep yourself safe
- Someone else is in danger
How to find help where you are
Emergency numbers and crisis lines differ by country. Find A Helpline lists free, confidential services worldwide. In the UK, the NHS lists urgent mental health help, including 111 and local crisis teams.

Telling someone you trust
You don't need perfect words. "I'm not okay and I need you to stay with me" is enough. A friend, family member, church leader or colleague can help you take the next step.
What Behind 6 does in a crisis
If the companion senses you might be in danger, it stays calm, asks which country you're in and helps you find real people to contact. It never guesses helpline numbers. Behind 6 is support — it is not a therapist or emergency service.
